Submissions are now being accepted for the use of the Clubhouse Activity Centre on the grounds of the Cochrane Ranche Historic site and will remain open until Sept. 5 at 3 p.m.

The idea of better utilizing the Clubhouse was first presented to town council in February. Last month, it gave the green light to accepting proposals. Even before last month's decision to proceed with the competition, town council had received proposals from both the Cochrane Public Library and BGC Cochrane and Area. Others have expressed interest in making pitches.

"The space is suited to offer a limited range of community programming or small business opportunities," the description used by the town states in part.  "Expanding the opportunity for local community groups or local small businesses to use the space meets our commitment to bringing people together physically and socially. Increasing the use of the Clubhouse would support and enhance community events and promote neighborhood connections and a sense of place."

The principles being followed for the selection are the need for submissions to increase vibrancy, have a positive community impact, energize and celebrate the Historic Ranche site, and improve the revenue stream. There are other value-added factors, such as the Clubhouse remaining available for periodic use by the community.

Town council will have the final say in who secures the lease.
