The Cochrane Water Ninjas have become a lifesaving sport club of note in Alberta and nationwide.

With provincial and national championships under their belt, they've added to their mystique with the introduction of a brand-new symbol to represent their search for excellence in lifesaving and the teamwork it entails.

New head coach Alexx Diep says there was nothing wrong with the old logo but with the departure of head coach Marlee Palmer and Matt Johnson, it was the ideal time. He says with assistant coach Patsy Lindsay and him taking the helm, the club would naturally undergo some changes.

"We're going to run things a little bit differently, so as a way we can uplift the team even further, we decided why don't we do a little bit more than just have new faces, let's also update our logo."

He was impressed with what Patsy Lindsay created and the story behind it. Patsy agreed to share the story.

"The ninja feels that perhaps their surroundings might hide some unspeakable secret, and so they carefully search. This is how I felt at the first meet of the season, and the surroundings spoke. There was passion for the sport, unity amongst teams, fun, comradery, and discipline.

Discipline isn’t just about following rules; it encompasses commitment, dedication, and strong work ethic. When you embrace this, you are equipped to face challenges, push your limits, and achieve greatness. This all speaks volumes of truth, of the team, and of a ninja.

Of all the equipment ninjas carry, nothing is more important than the sword. It signifies the presence of an ethical code that demands honour and integrity within the ninja’s world. The sword becomes an indication of this moral duality, representing honor and stealth. To carry two swords was a privilege and a symbol of honor.

Amongst the ninja's search, guidance was sought from their sensei. Sensei spoke of different symbolisms; of a circle representing unity and togetherness, of how two swords crossed represented unity and mutual respect, and how samurai share certain values and principles. This affirmed the surroundings and unspeakable secrets to the careful search. And in the way of the ninja preparing for battle, the two swords worn on the back had a striking resemblance to the rescue tube being backpacked. The circle not only represents unity and togetherness but also captures lifesaving through the ring buoy.

Through rigorous training, the ninja learns to stretch the limit of his ability through perseverance and unity of mind and body. A true ninja is an individual who ensures adversity while maintaining integrity and seeks harmony.

Prepare for your weekend warrior of events!"

The Water Ninjas introduced the logo at their annual home meet against clubs from across the province.
