With only 11 games remaining in the regular season, every game makes a difference in the tight race for second place in the south division of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL).

A mere two points separate second from fourth place in the standings. Placing second secures a bye from the first round of playoffs, and gives home-ice advantage for round two.

It will be the seemingly uncatchable Okotoks Bisons who finish first. They have an astounding 27-1 record.

Cochrane Generals head coach Kurtis Jones was disappointed the Gens lost their last two games against top south division rivals.

"I'd like to sit up at second, but it's a tight race," says Jones. "Win or lose you can move up or down, one point up or two points back of everybody."

The Gens lace up for a rematch against the Ponoka Stampeders at the Cochrane Arena this Saturday, Jan. 4.

The team is seeking some redemption from a 2-0 road loss to the Stampeders on Dec. 8. The Stamps are the only team to beat Okotoks this year, despite being low in the north division standings.

Jones says the Stamps have faced a hot goalie last time, and they hope to solve that riddle on Saturday night.

"I hope we can take two points out of that. It's huge--we need the two points. We just have to find a way to beat their goaltender."

The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
