The Cochrane area could see a severe thunderstorm today with strong wind, up to toonie size hail, and heavy rain.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Rocky View County and Cochrane earlier today.

The warning has since been lifted.

"This thunderstorm is located 10 km north of Morley and is moving to the southeast at 10 km/h."

The national weather service reminds residents that heavy rain has the potential to cause flash floods and cause water to pool on roads.

"Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches."

Cochrane continues to be under a heat warning as temperatures reach 30 degrees Celsius for much of the week.
