A traffic stop on Sunday, May 22 led RCMP to charge five youth occupants in a vehicle.

Around 9:15 pm, Cochrane RCMP pulled over a vehicle near Highway 1A and 22.

Cochrane RCMP Sergeant Darleen White says a strong smell of burnt marijuana tipped the officer off.

"The suspects were taken out of the vehicle and arrested. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded further drugs inside."

Beside the driver facing a 24 hour suspension, Sgt. White shares what charges were laid. 

"There were 30 grams of marijuana and charges were laid for open liquor and smoking under the Tobacco Act as a youth."

Sgt. White says there were four 17 year old's and one fifteen year old involved in the incident. 

All occupants face court in July.
