Stoney Health Services is spearheading a tribute ceremony to residential school survivors on Monday, Aug. 30 to honour those discovered in the unmarked graves across the country.

It's a day to respect all children and survivors of the Morley/Stoney residential and day school survivors of Morley, Eden Valley, and Bighorn.

The ceremony will be held at the former residential school site, now the Morley High School. The pipe ceremony starts at 12:30 p.m., followed by a formal welcome and speeches at 1 p.m.

On Aug. 31, a Walk to Remember to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day. It is a day to remember loved ones lost to overdose and raise awareness of the epidemic affecting the community.

People are encouraged to gather at the Stoney Tribal Administration parking lot at 12 noon, where there will be lunch, a few brief speeches, and training in Naloxone/Narcan use, followed by a walk to the Chiniki Community Kitchen, located about 3.5 km away in the same building as the Stoney Nakoda RCMP at 2 Boundary Rd.

Participants are encouraged to wear purple and are welcome to bring photos of loved ones they have lost.
