The U18 female Team Canada is returning from Lake Placid with an exhibition series win over the USA after two goals in the second lifted them a 2-0 win in the deciding game on Aug. 17.

Cochrane's Sarah Wozniewicz was part of a winning effort by Canada's U18 female team in the three-game series. The Americans tied the series by winning the second game in overtime on Thursday.

The roster showed chemistry in the final game, believes their head coach.

“I felt like we climbed up today; the team has some resilience and some determination and fight, and when you have those three qualities, anything is possible," says U18 head coach Howie Draper. "Everyone contributes to the success we’ve had, and I feel like the chemistry is really starting to percolate, and it just makes it fun. When it can be fun, the hockey stuff comes easy.”

Wozniewicz was third in scoring for Team Canada and fifth overall in the tournament. She scored in the opening game and earned an assist in the second one.

Besides her regular season at the Edge School, Wozniewicz has made the shortlist for Alberta's team competing in the U18 National Championship in Manitoba in early November. She'll continue to be scouted by Hockey Alberta while playing for the Edge, then participate in a final selection camp from Sept. 27 to 29.

Hockey Canada will be scouting players during the national championship in preparation for selecting their roster for the 2020 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, Dec. 26-Jan. 2 in Bratislava, Slovakia.
