It was certainly a successful day for Cochrane BMX.

Last Sunday (June 2), Alberta BMX Day brought out several new riders to the track to experience the sport and the overall feel of the club.

Marcie Davis, Treasurer for the Cochrane BMX Association shares while she can't say whether this was their best event to date, it was one of the better ones. "We had 85 new people come and try the sport ever. So that was quite exciting, and we had enough club members on hand to help out those new riders. It was a pretty good day, I couldn't tell you if it was the most people we have seen, but we were more than thrilled with the turnout."

One of the older, newest riders to try out the sport.

This year riders as young as four to those born in 1944, hit up the track to give the sport a try. Davis says thanks to the opportunity Alberta BMX Day provides, they have had several names sign to be on the roster for this season.

Feedback from the day was extremely positive, and many of the comments received shared the same sentiment. "I have heard comments about how great the day was, how organized it was, and how friendly people were at the track. It was really brought out that it is such a family-friendly environment."

The Cochrane BMX Association strives to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment which adds to the success of our growing club. "I think that is definitely part of it;  we genuinely love it, and it is so easy to bring people along."

The regular season is now underway for Cochrane BMX racers. "Monday and Wednesday for racing, Tuesday and Thursday for coaching, and we'll open the track up for most Saturday's and Sunday's. The great thing is people can come as little or as much as they want; there is no actual commitment people have to make to us, and that is what people like. Some people only want to come once a week while others four or five, do what works for your family, and that is what makes it so fantastic."

There is no need to feel like you may have missed out though, you can sign up to join the sport at any time throughout the year. "They can sign up any time throughout the season, even at the end of August. We never close registration."
