Cochrane has been treated to many Filipino celebrations over the year, and each has been memorable, including yesterday's mini-festival.

With the support of several sponsors, the Filipino Canadian Association of Cochrane Alberta (FCACA) offered plenty of music, dance, games, and a feast that couldn't be beaten on June 10 at the Cochrane Ranche Historic Site. It also doubled as the closing event of Seniors Week.

The afternoon's festivities were wrapped up with the performance of tinkling, the national dance of the Philippines. It's a fun, but challenging dance that requires one to be well-coordinated and swift-footed.

After a performance by skilled youth, others got to try their hand at it, including Mayor Jeff Genung and Airdrie-Cochrane MLA Peter Guthrie. They were both up to the challenge.

June is Filipino Heritage Month in Alberta and no year is complete without a mini-festival courtesy of the community's Filipino community. Earlier that same day, the Philippines Flag was raised at the Cochrane RancheHouse, two days ahead of Philippines Independence Day on June 12.
