The Bow Valley Bobcats football team has a hit on their hands, literally.

Football moms got a chance to tackle their sons, grandsons, and son's friends as a preamble to the team's first Blue and White Game on June 10.

Grandma Margaret Graham was fired up for a chance to bring down her grandson Caleb and wore a Vikings jersey to mark the occasion. She didn't stop with Caleb. She dropped his buddy Joey Zintel as well.

Diane Widmark has talked about tackling her kid with her husband and when the chance came to do it she was there and got the ball rolling.

Mom and playersDiane Widmark had a gas tackling her son Riley, left, and his buddy Madyx Mack.

Several other moms suited up for an event thatteam manager Jennifer Zintel says they discovered on YouTube.

"You have that special bond with them, but they drive you nuts at the same time," says Zintel. "So to be able to actually tackle your child, I'm pretty excited about it, I'm not going to lie."

Unfortunately, she was recovering from a broken leg but made sure her son hit the matt.

It was just one of the many events taking place Saturday afternoon leading up to the team's first-ever Blue and White Game. There were skills test competitions for the players, and for the kids, mascots and face painting. Dogs were there from Garcia Rescue and team merchandise and food were available for purchase.

Bobcats head coach Dustin Paul says the game was a close matchup between the offense and defence,

"I'm happy with what I saw from both sides of the ball," says Coach Paul. "The score went back and forth."

The D took a quick 15-0 lead but by halftime, the offense took the lead. The defence came out strong in the second half to regain the lead. The  offense was making a comeback but ran out of time."

"I would have liked to have seen more people there, but everyone looked to be thoroughly enjoying themselves, and all the players had a blast. At the end of the day, that's what matters most."

Proceeds from the event are being used to purchase equipment for the Bobcats and to support Garcia Rescue.

The Bobcats wrap up spring camp this week and play their first exhibition game in Canmore on Aug. 26.
