Cochrane got a slice of Hollywood this week as Stunt Nations took to the Ag grounds.

The Indigenous-owned stunt school holds workshops for Indigenous adults who want to break into the entertainment industry as a stunt performer.

Co-Founder Marty Wildman explains how Stunt Nations came together.

“We played around with the idea and instead of First Nations Stunt Company, we called it Stunt Nations. We want to bring everyone together, it doesn’t matter if you’re Indigenous or any other minority, we are here to bring us together. Non-First Nation people are also welcome. We just want to unite everyone.”

10 students took part in the Cochrane workshop this week coming from all over Canada including Ottawa, Vancouver, and Saskatchewan.

Wildman is an actor known for his work in ‘North of 60’ and ‘Outlander’. “I never had this sort of training growing up, I had to learn the hard way. My idea was always to give kids and other people that boost. It might not lead to something today, but it could lead to something tomorrow.”

20-year-old Stunt Nations student, Rebecca Cardinal says it’s the community that brings it all together. “The camaraderie is what I love. We have a lot of fun. I used to do musical theatre so anything where I get to act, like pretend to die, fall over, or get shot, I’m all for that.”

“It’s so freakin’ cool to be able to say hey, I’m an Indigenous woman and I do my own stunts.”
