Weather is a huge factor in the success of any Show and Shine, and judging by the sunshine forecasted, we can expect another huge crowd at the Fall Colours event in the Historic Downtown on Sunday.
The annual Fall Colours Show and Shine of Cochrane Classic Cars is expected to fill 1st St. W. (main street) and its side streets until late in the afternoon with everything from vintage cars to the latest rides.
Last year's weather was ideal and attracted several thousand people.
"According to the Weather Network, as of right now, we are expecting a full show as far as vehicles go, so we do expect that we'll be running out of room at some point," says club president Waylon Pye.
He recommends show participants arrive close to 8 a.m. when the registration desk opens, but no earlier. The entry point is 1st St. and 1st Ave. and the registration table will be located by the old Rexall store.
The main drag will be closed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show itself starts to wind down around 3 and runs until 4 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to completely avoid the 1st W. corridor until the event is over.
It's ideal for spectaculars to park south of the tracks and access downtown through the pedestrian track crossing by The Station on Railway St.
"We know people are frustrated with the lack of channels and access around town right now and that more road closures and diversions aren't what people are looking for, but this is an annual event, nothing changes for us as far as what we're closing down," says Pye. "We recommend avoiding the area if you're not registering a vehicle."
Vehicles will be judged and there'll be prizes and giveaways all day long.
At least one food truck and a lemonade and cotton candy stand will be on-site, plus plenty of fine restaurants downtown for people to enjoy.
This is the club's biggest event of the season and takes a team of volunteers to orchestrate.
"We have a great team, and everybody's willing to help out when needed and do whatever it takes to make the big show happen in September."

The popular Cremona Show and Shine runs today (Sept. 9) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entry is by donation to the food bank. There's a pancake breakfast, BBQ lunch, and Farmers' Market. It's held right downtown Cremona, 42 km north of Cochrane via Hwy. 22.
A popular feature of their annual show has been a chance to win a vehicle, and it's no different this year. This year's prize car is a 1994 Firebird Formula LT1 6 spd with a 350 cu in V8 engine. There are also other prize packages and a 50/50 draw.
