Rocky View Schools (RVS) wants to make that first school bus ride is stress-free as possible for new students and their families.

Once again, RVS is hosting My First Ride, a free in-person event for new bus riders presented by RVS bus contractors.

The first session is on Aug. 21 starting at 6 p.m. for families from the Cochrane area, including Bragg Creek, Springbank, Westbrook, and Bearspaw. It occurs at the RVS Education Centre, 2651 Chinook Winds Dr. SW, Airdrie, AB.

There, families will learn more about safely riding the school bus. Bus contractor and school division staff will be on hand to answer any questions.

There are also sessions for students elsewhere in the school division. On Aug. 22, It's open to families from the Airdrie area, including Crossfield, Kathyrn, and Beiseker. August 23 is set aside for those from the Chestermere area, including Langdon, and Indus.

The material covered at each session will be identical, with the opportunity to ask community-specific questions. Please email questions to transportation@rockyview.ab.ca.

A short RVS safety video is also available for viewing at your leisure. It includes details on what to expect and how to stay safe when taking the school bus.

You can view the video on the RVS website, or on YouTube.

Next Tuesday, Aug, 15 is the last day to register for transportation to guarantee bus service on the first day of school. Registrations received after this deadline may cause delays of two to three weeks.

A step-by-step guide to registration is available on the RVS website.
