Temperatures in Cochrane have been above seasonal for the last two weeks and feeling much more like spring than winter, but we aren't in the clear just yet!

Snow is forecasted to start later today and we can expect to get more of the white stuff throughout the weekend.

Environment Canada's Sarah Hoffman says there's an arctic ridge bringing cooler temperatures and snow to Cochrane and the surrounding areas. She says "There's an incoming ridge from arctic bringing in some cooler than normal air. that's going to interact with a pulse of moist air over Southern Alberta and bring cooler than normal temperatures and heavy snowfall to much of Southern Alberta, especially higher terrain."

Hoffman says the snow will start late this afternoon and will continue throughout the weekend, and that Cochrane can expect to see significant accumulation. She says "On Friday the snow will start and it will continue over the course of the day on Saturday and into Sunday morning. we are looking at up to about ten centimetres with this event and just to the west could see 15 to 20 centimetres, especially over higher terrain."

Hoffman says that this weather system is expected to pass through Cochrane and the surrounding areas by the end of the weekend and that by Monday we can expect above seasonal temperatures once again.
