Bow Valley Rugby Club Grizzlies is reaching out to Cochrane women over the age of 18 to join a seniors' team and build a community of like minded individuals.

“We're looking at getting women out of the house, socializing and enjoying some fitness while they're at it,” explains Emily Herron with the Grizzlies. “It's very much a grassroots operation at the moment.”

“The biggest thing is we noticed a lack of sports out there for women. We have offered the senior women's program for quite some time but we're in the process right now of identifying that there's a need for it and the benefits that come from it. “

“Not only just fitness but actually learning the sport. We're very much geared towards the building from the ground up. Really, if somebody's never even touched a rugby ball before, they are more than welcome to come out and give it a go.”

Bow Valley Rugby Club is offering various trials and options for anyone interested in trying the sport, including touch-only practices.

While Herron loves to fill the pitch with like-minded ladies, she says what the team does off the field together is just as important.

“We show up, we do our practices, we go to the pitch, all that kind of stuff. Afterwards, we're gonna go out and we're gonna socialize.”

“We are a culture of community and family, in every sense of the word. We're looking after each other's physical health, we're looking after each other's mental health. We're doing what we can off the pitch to prop each other up just as much as we are on the pitch.”

The season begins its indoor training on February 23, 2023, and will move outdoors once weather permits. Anyone interested in learning more and joining the team is encouraged to reach out here.
