Cochrane's Sarah Wozniewicz will be wearing the red and white for Canada this week in a three-game hockey series against the US in Lake Placid, NY.

The 19-year-old was selected for Canada's National Women's Development Team in the Aug. 16 to 19 series. It follows a five-day training camp in St. Catharines, ON.

“We have a very young and competitive group in our development program this year,” said Gina Kingsbury, Hockey Canada's vice-president of hockey operations, in a press release. “A number of these athletes have experience and understand what it takes to win in short-term competition. Facing the Americans is another development opportunity as they continue to grow and transition into a future in our program. We are excited about the week ahead in Lake Placid.”

Wozniewicz is currently preparing for her third season with the University of Wisconsin Badgers, who won their seventh NCAA national championship last season.

She appeared in 40 games in her sophomore season, accumulating 14 points, including two game-winning goals.

Wozniewicz was named the WCHA preseason co-rockie of the year in 2021 and named to the WCHA All-Rockie Team. For the 2022-23 season, she was a member of the WCHA all-academic team and was both a WCHA and All-Big Ten scholar athlete.

Last August, Wozniewicz skated for Canada's development team against the US in a similar series hosted by Calgary.
