If you always wondered what it would be like to train Rocky Balboa style; Rival Boxing is providing the opportunity.

Rival is hosting its first ever charity fundraising boxing event, with proceeds fighting testicular cancer.

Craig Wilson, owner of Rival Boxing Gym, says for 10 weeks they will prep you, train you, and gear you up for your shot at winning in the ring.

"We are looking for 24 local Cochranites who have never boxed before or always wanted to do it, its going to be a three month gym membership and ten week training camp. Then they will get matched up accordingly to size, weight, and ability and then they box on the night and raise some money for a good cause."

The fundraising event is open to both men and women over 18, and Wilson is looking to raise as much as possible between sponsorship and ticket sales.

"Part of the responsibility is for each of the boxers to find a local business or a business and sponsor them a $1000, we want to try and make as much as we can out of this because we are supporting one of our guys from the gym who got hit with testicular cancer three years ago."

Wilson, says for the past three years local resident Matt Roberts has been to hell and back fighting his way for survival. "No one in Alberta nor Canada would operate on him, he had to go the States for all these treatments and he teamed up with Oneball organization and that is how this whole thing started."

Wilson says while the idea has been in the works since Roberts first surgery, they wanted to make sure he would be given the a-okay before planning the event. "He was just given the all clear scan a couple of weeks ago and he is all clear now. It's a good time to pull the trigger; we didn't want to go ahead with it while there was still stuff to be done."

What can you expect to face if you sign up...? While you may not end up a world champion after ten weeks of training, Wilson says it is a great opportunity to not only check a box on your bucket list but get a little healthier in the process. "For people that are doing it, maybe it will change their lifestyle a little but, get them involved in being fit and healthy, working on their fitness, teach them the basics of boxing, and have fun with it."

The charity event is still firming up venue details but public is invited to attend the evening match.

An information session runs tonight (April 27), 7 pm at the gym to learn more about the training, event, and how to register.
