The lacrosse community joined together to remember Jordan McKinnon in a touching ceremony held before the Rocky View Silvertips-Shamrocks game, June 2.

The words spoken resonated, but it was the visible support they lent the McKinnon family that showed just how widely respected Jordan and his family are within this tight-knited group. The team retired #3 and presented the jersey to his parents before players from both teams paid their respects to the couple, then joined together for a group photograph.

The crowd for the game was larger than usual and Silvertips manager Todd Halladay explained there were not only supporters of the Silvertips and Shamrocks present, there were representatves of many other teams. Halladay, himself, has been a friend of the family for years.

The special program prepared for the memorial game included an insert of considered comments from his peers. Among them was that of Myles Moffat of the Silvertips and Mustangs.

"Jordan taught me to enjoy the little things in life, and to cherish the people you love. "He taught me not to dwell in life and to just keep pushing forward and not give up on dreams," he wrote in part.

Others spoke about his team spirit, his skills as a player and, in the lighter side, one teammate wrote how Jordan taught him how to have a coke and burger for breakfast.

"Jordan taught me that no matter the circumstances, you owe it to yourself and 20 brothers you share a floor with to give 100 per cent effort, 100 per cent of the time," wrote Tae Gordon.

Proceeds from the game were donated to the Jordan McKinnon Lacrosse Scholarship.

The game itself was a tough one for the Silvertips. The Shamrocks showed why they are the top team in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League. They tallied a convincing 18-8 win after getting on the scoreboard early and never looking back.

Colby Gulutzan scored a hattrick for the Silvertips, both Paulo Falzi and Boedy Shields scored two and  Matthew Dyck scored one.

The Tips lost a close 8-7 game to the Mounties on the road, June 3.

The Tips are on the road for a few games before returning to the SLS Family Sports Centre for a match against the Jr. Warriors, June 18.
