Cochrane's Tanner Milan had a strong start in the Calgary Stampede steer wrestling competition but it petered out in the final day of action.

Milan scored a rodeo hat trick in his first three days of competition that guaranteed him a spot in the Showdown Sunday. On his fourth and final preliminary run he had an unfortunate miss with a head-raising steer that landed him second in his pool heading into the final. Sunday, he suffered another miss that put him out of the running.

It was Tyler Waguespack of Gonzales, LA who walked away with the $100,000 bag of cash, scoring a time of 38 seconds in the Final Four. Alberta's top contender was Cody Cassidy of Donalda, with a time of 4 seconds even to earned the second place $25,000 purse.

Still, Milan didn't leave the Stampede empty-handed. He earned $16,500 for his memorable hat trick, his first at the Stampede.

"I won two in a row and split one, but I’ve never won three rounds right out by myself,” says Milan,

The two-time continue champ continues to be one of the top contenders in rodeos across North America and even had to fly off for a competition in the States after the plreiminary round here before returning to Calgary for the final. He's currently the number one steer wrestler in the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association standings.
