If there was a measuring stick of the success of the Bow Valley Rugby Club's program it might well be how their U17/18 teams matched up this season in the Calgary Rugby Union.

In their first season of play, the U17/18 boys 7s team won the City Championship, Sept. 30, against Saracens. It follows on the footsteps of the city championship victory and silver medal performance in the provincials by the U17 15s team in August.

Coach Adrian Turner says the team played exceptionally well and were deserving winners. It's also a telltale sign of things to come.

"We're very excited by this group of players," Says Turner. "They're the first group that has got to that age group coming through the Bow Valley system which really shows what we can do going forward."

"They started when the club was formed and they've gone through ever age group and the results are there for all to see."

The team's stellar play throughout the regular season opened the door for them to play in the finals against the well-established Calgary Sacrens club.

The Bow Valley club is founded upon strong principles of inclusion, affordability and sportsmanship, matched with quality instruction and their numbers continue to grow.

The rugby season is now over and the club will be taking a break until about mid-January when they start their indoor program. In the meantime, plans are in the works for two junior teams to compete on Vancouver Island in February.

Turner says the club is also developing its girls and ladies rugby programs.

"The club is working hard at that. We're trying to make it a sport for all to enjoy."
