If there is one event Cochranites can be extremely proud of, it's the Kimmett Cup.

In nine years the event has grown to a monumental size not only in participants but money/donations as well.

In a downed economy the Kimmett Cup has managed to not only reach its goal in 2017, but smash it. Kelly Kimmett was thrilled with the preliminary numbers they have calculated.

"The grand total is $165,000; so $125,000 of that goes to Children's Wish and completes our commitment of half a million dollars over the past four years, $7000 is going to KidSport, and the remainder will remain in the foundation to be used in town for local initiatives like Lindsay's Kids."

Even though the Kimmett Cup shared the weekend with Hometown Hockey, Kimmett believes the tournament's growth and reputation is what paved the way to surpassing their goal.

"I think it's the growth of the tournament and more and more teams getting involved in the fundraising. We broke our record on the donation page, also the Cochrane businesses there was a record for the corporate donations so the local businesses really came through."

Where or what does Kimmett Cup grow into?! I imagine these are all discussions the Kimmett family will have in the future,

"I don't know where it can go but it gets bigger and better every year. I have heard from other corporate sponsors who want to get on board for next year that they've been looking for something like this to support so I expect we'll see even more support next year."

The Kimmett Cup not only makes the entire Kimmett family proud, but Cochrane as a whole.

If you didn't have a chance to donate yet, you have until Sunday, February 28 and you can do so here.
