23 cyclists from Cochrane, Calgary, Edmonton, and Sault Ste. Marie have left for a four day trek through the Rockies to raise funds to build homes.

Habitat For Humanity’s 3rd annual Ride Through The Rockies kicked off in Cochrane yesterday morning, the group will ride approximately 375 km through Kananaskis, Canmore, Banff, and participate in the GranFondo.

Carla Gervais, Habitat For Humanity Fund Development Director, says the event raises around $125,000 for home building projects.

“It is to help fund a build that were doing, 24 homes in Pineridge,” she says. “So that's 6 four plexes which will be home to 24 local families.”

Gervais is grateful for the support that comes from the ride, without it the non profit organization would not be able to achieve its goals.

“Without funding we cant build homes for families, without fundraising, or sponsorship, whether it be individual or corporate we wouldn’t be able to build the homes that we build right now.”

The group is due back in Cochrane on Sunday Aug. 21.
