On August 24, youth ages 4-13 can enjoy a free day of physical activity thanks to Jumpstart Games.

Jumpstart Games was started in Cochrane four years ago, and and is all about kids enjoying a fun day out.

Chris Birch, Canadian Tire, Assistant General Manager, says the day is all about celebrating sports.

"It's about getting out; our Jumpstart charity obviously supports exclusively that, where kids get out and get active in various sports and so this is just a celebration of that."

Attending youth will participate in a variety of activities, enjoy lunch, and receive a backpack with sports equipment.

The games will be held at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre and will focus more on indoor sports due to ongoing construction at the facility.

"With Spray Lake being under renovation were used to having more games but this year the games will be more inside. There's free play, all the traditional ones- volleyball, basketball, soccer, bouncy castles. So a lot of the stuff we've seen before, but more of a focus on indoor games."

The Jumpstart charity continues to offer many children a chance to participate in sports they may not be able to afford. Birch adds, although the down turned economy has caused a slight bump up for requests, when times were good they still couldn't fulfill all requests.

"Even those there's more money coming into the chapters, and fundraising efforts have grown, there is still kids out there that were not able to help or we have to say no to. For us, it's all about spreading that word and trying to gain more dollars. Which is a challenge in this time."

Every dollar donated to the Cochrane Jumpstart chapter stays local within the community.

Jumpstart Games would not be possible without the partnership of many local businesses and organizations who show support either financially or by facilitating.

Spaces are filing up quickly for the one day event.
