If the balmy temperatures we've been experiencing this week have you dreaming about summer camping trips, well, you can start planning those now.

Alberta Parks is implementing some changes to its online booking system, making it easier to lock in your summer campsites.

Starting today, (January 11) online reservations on Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca will be a year-round service.

The updated online system went into effect at 9:00 this morning and is intended to alleviate pressure on the booking system which has been overloaded over the past two years.

Anyone wanting to book at Cypress Hills Provincial Park, Dinosaur Provincial Park, Kinbrook Island Provincial Park, Police Outpost Provincial Park and McLean Creek Provincial Recreation Area can book now for arrival dates up to April 11, 2022.

Another change Alberta Parks has implemented is the length of time you're able to book an individual campsite.

Previously you could book 16 days at a time but that has now been reduced to 10 because of a large number of cancellations.

If you're looking to book for comfort camping you can do that up to 180 days in advance.

Starting tomorrow (January 12) booking for all group camping areas will be made available for year-round for reservations, depending on each campground's opening and closing dates.

Bookings for a new campground will open up each day on the  Alberta Parks website.
