Cochrane's Jassi Trimiming is Alberta's contestant for Miss Filipina International 2022.

She is one of 25 contestants from around the globe seeking to wear the crown. It's a pageant created to showcase and highlight the beauty, elegance, intellect, and cultural pride of today's young Filipinas.

Jassi says she was a little iffy about the idea when first approached to become a contestant.

"But then I decided I wanted the opportunity to represent the Filipino community in the Calgary area and Alberta as a whole, and I'm very happy I took the opportunity."

She's been practicing ever since for the pageant, especially how to walk in seven-inch heels.

Jassi participated in the Philippines Heritage Month celebration at the Cochrane Ranche on June 12, and she has plenty more stops to make.

"I'm going to be at a lot of events in support of the Filipino community, and hope people can support me, too."

Jassi says she never loses faith in a good outcome. She developed her desire to help others at the young age of seven when she began taking care of her sick father. Currently, she's working towards a career in the healthcare profession as a nurse.

Social media voting continues on the Facebook page of Miss Filipina International Pageant until July 25. You can show your support for her by liking the pageant, selecting her photo from among the 25 contestants then sharing it. That gives her two votes.

The preliminary competition is on July 29 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center in Redondo Beach, south of LA. Coronation Night is July 30, 2022.
