If you have an opinion on the escalating costs of automobile insurance, now is the time to voice that opinion. In the fall of 2019, the government launched a review into ensuring that Albertans were provided with affordable and sustainable insurance options. Leading the review is a three-member advisory committee.

Chris Daniel, chair Automobile Insurance Advisory Committee says," As we review Alberta’s automobile insurance system, we are asking Albertans, service providers and other relevant stakeholders to be part of the potential solution. A thorough understanding of consumer and industry needs will help ensure our recommendations to the government are realistic and reflective of the marketplace as a whole.”

Data shows that Albertans pay the third-highest rates in Canada, second to BC and Ontario. The committee is conducting a survey looking for Albertan's and service providers' input. The survey can be done online or through written submissions.

As MLA, Peter Guthrie puts it, "The advisory committee has been given the mandate to look for more affordable ways to deliver automobile insurance for Albertans. They are looking to improve the timeliness of claims. It's still in a private-sector delivery model that they are looking at but they want to have something that is viable and sustainable."

The public survey consists of 17 questions and was developed by the advisory committee and will be open until March 6, 2020. The Committee will deliver its recommendations to the government in June 2020.
