When future generations look back at what happened in Cochrane on June 2, 2018, they'll find a vivid account.

At least, that's the intention of the Day in the Life of Cochrane project that will see a multitude of photographers comb the Cochrane area to portray everyday life here.

Exactly how substantial an account will largely depend upon how many businesses, groups and people step forward to be part of the project, that's a joint initiative of the Cochrane Photography Club, Tourism Cochrane and the town's Economic Development department. The team of photographers will be made up of members of the Cochrane Camera Club and professionals from the area.

Pat Johnston, president of the Cochrane Camera Club, says they have had many topics already submitted and have solicited others but more are welcomed. They're being collected until Apr. 30, giving organizers time to plan the day's shoot. It starts at 12:01 a.m. and continues until the stroke of midnight.

There are, of course, a couple of special events that day--Footstock and the opening of the Cochrane Farmers' Market--but there's much more to life in Cochrane than such ventures.

"Our intent is to have a snapshot of daily life in Cochrane. The fact that Footstock is going on is special but on the other hand, we happen to have events like that going on year round and that just happens to be on that day."

They are connecting with quite a few businesses but there are other celebrations and day-in, day-out topics they hope to shoot.

"Maybe somebody is having a wedding that day or they're having a birthday gathering or have other plans. Part of the problem is, other than weddings and birthday, most people probably don't have a clue what they're doing that day."

That's where enterprising for topics will fill the gaps.

"I pity the poor speeder who's been pulled over by the local police if one of our photographers happens to be going by," he chuckles quickly pointing out the intention is not to embarrass anyone.

"We really won't know what we have until the end of it and we're really just looking to make this a 24-hour snapshot of different things that went on."

A selection of the resulting photographs will be showcased by economic development websitewww.makeithere.ca as well as by Cochrane Tourism.
