A local high school teacher has written his first book.

Scott Thompson who is an Outdoor Education Teacher at Bow Valley High school spent about a year and a half writing the novel called The Explorers Club.

Thompson says "the book is about four teenagers who accidentally stumble across a clue and then it leads them on a whole series of clues through the Canadian Rockies and as they're pursuing it they're trying to find some long-hidden treasure."

Thompson says he was inspired to write the book because of his sons interest in a book that he was reading which leads characters around the world searching for clues.

He says his son was " listening to a book called The 39 Clues and he just loved them. In that story these kids are all over the world and they go to the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower and all these really cool historic places. And I thought you know, I'm not at that calibre but why couldn't I create a novel or a story where he is one of the central characters and they go to all these really cool places that matter to us in the rockies."

Thompson says his son has read the book and that was a highlight moment for him as a dad.

He says "He was fully engrossed in the character and lots of different cliffhanger moments where he was like no, dad you can't stop you have to keep reading. He's read it and he thought it was pretty awesome."
