The box lacrosse season has fallen victim to COVID-19.

The Rocky View Lacrosse Association has advised their season will be a no-go, at least for now.

On Apr. 8, the Alberta Lacrosse Association (ALA) cancelled the minor box season throughout the province.

The next day, the Rocky View association, and all others, followed suit.

"We have all been holding out hope that we could offer a box lacrosse season in 2020, but we have come to the realization that a normal box season is not going to be possible this spring," they announced to the lacrosse community.

However, there's an outside chance of a modified program later in the summer.

"If at some point the governments remove the social distancing restrictions and the CLA / ALA / CDLA are all in agreement, and the lacrosse facilities re-open, RVLA has a plan in place to offer a modified summer box program," states the letter.

The association offers play for everyone from U6 to junior men's and ladies. The cancellation comes after the groundwork was laid for the season.

It also comes after a breakthrough season for their Silvertips Jr. B team. They posted their best record ever in 2019.
