This Sunday (September 15), residents are invited to bring the whole family out in support of one man's dream.

The 39th annual Terry Fox Run is being hosted at Mitford Park at 11 a.m. and features an out and back run. Although a ten-kilometre course is being mapped out; runners, walkers, rollerbladers, and dog walkers can participate in any distance they choose.

Lindsay Regier, Event Organizer for the Cochrane Chapter, is looking forward to another incredible day of raising funds and keeping Terry's legacy alive. "I think as Canadians; we have all grown up learning about Terry Fox. Whether it was at runs at our school or even remembering seeing Terry run. I think we are all quite proud and nostalgic that Terry was one of us. As Canadians, we feel we owe it to keep his legacy alive; the wish for the run to go on, regardless, is something we have latched on to."

With Regier leading the charge for the past five years, Cochranites are reaching out to her, and more and more, are stepping up in support. "We definitely built up a social media following in Cochrane; I think people recognize this is an annual thing and that it is a great event to be a part of. I think we have been able to really build momentum over the past few years."

Already having raised dollars, Regier is hoping to exceed the average 100 to 150 participants as she looks to reach a goal of 15,000 dollars. "We have come just a hair shy of 15,000 bucks in the past few years in terms of raising, and so I would really like to see that record get smashed and set a new record for Cochrane."

Being named one of the top ten runs out of all runs hosted in Alberta, Regier is hoping Cochrane's race becomes an inspiration. "I would love to see us move up in rankings, and show some other cities, that our town is a great supporter."

While those wishing to partake in Sunday's race can still register online HERE, others can register by walking up on Sunday when registration opens at 10 a.m. "People can go to terryfox.org and search for the run location and register themselves or as a team. It is a really great way to get friends, family, or co-workers together. It can be a way to show support for someone going through cancer or just as a way to come together and support a cause."

The annual Terry Fox Run has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for cancer research throughout its 39-year history. "We can see the results of what that has meant for people dealing with this disease. While we still have a ways to go, I think we all agree it is a worthy cause we all need to keep fighting for."

Everyone is welcome to partake in this year's run, and all participants are invited to stick around after the run for a barbeque offered by Original Joe's.
