The Kiwanis Club of Cochrane has relaunched its weekly Chase the Ace game.

The interactive fundraiser is a driving contributor to help raise funds for a number of community programs for disadvantaged kids in the Cochrane area.

Ronald Gosselin is the president of the Cochrane Kiwanis Club and he says that in the past, the weekly game has helped to fund their annual Christmas toy project initiative, bike recycling and safety program, kids’ leadership programs as well as Kamp Kiwanis.

In recent months, The Kiwanis Club of Cochrane has expanded their fundraising efforts to help vulnerable Cochranites with sanitary measures in wake of COVID-19. At a time when hand sanitizer was scarce and unavailable on store shelves, they took sanitary measures into their own hands, so to speak - and began producing and distributing it to local organizations.

Gosselin says now that many restrictions surrounding COVID-19 have been lifted, the club can once again get back to their interactive fundraising efforts.

He says that after months of feeling couped up people can get out and have some fun and safely support a good cause.

"We'll have masks on and gloves on, we handle the tickets ourselves and the pub itself has restrictions in terms of the number of people that are able to get in and will have distancing between the tables."

The weekly Chase the Ace game will be held at a new location. Previously at the Iron Bridge Pub, The Kiwanis Club of Cochrane has now partnered up The Venue Bar and Grill.

Chase the Ace will run every Saturday. Tickets are five dollars and will be available starting at 6 pm. The Venue will offer a happy hour drink and steak sandwich special each week and at 8 pm the draw will take place.

Gosselin says that no one has picked the ace of spades yet and there's a hefty jackpot up for grabs!

"So they will try to pick the ace of spades from a diminishing deck of cards. If the person gets to pick the ace of spades they'll get the full pot which has accumulated over the weeks, and right now on Saturday, the pot will be about $825."

Chase the Ace is happening tomorrow night (Saturday) at The Venue Bar and Grill located at 79 Railway St. E.
