The Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee (CISC) is calling on Cochranites to connect and inspire each other as we approach Family Day.

They're once again holding a Family Day contest, and as newly appointed President of CISC, Kristina Kindree explains all you have to do to enter is send in a family photo.

"We want people to participate by sending in their family pictures--of them doing anything really together," explains Kindree. "We're pretty open, any kind of family activities; outdoor, indoor, with their pets."

Kindree acknowledges that families come in all shapes and sizes and she says all submissions are welcome.

"We want to make sure we have the broader definition of what family is," explains Kindree." Because it can be different for everyone."

Whether it's the family you were born with or your chosen family, the committee wants to see a photo of you and your loved ones and you'll automatically be entered for a prize that you and your family can enjoy together.

"The contest starts on February 1, and we'll do a draw on February 15," explains Kindree. "The prize will be a $50 gift card from the Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) recreation Centre here."

Kindree says the gift card from the SLS Family Sports Centre can be used towards any programs at the facility.

The contest is now open on all social media platforms. You can submit your photo on the CISC Facebook page, Instagram or you can email it to: CISCcochrane@gmail.com.

Alberta was actually the first province in Canada to recognize the statutory holiday that celebrates the importance of families and their communities, and the annual holiday has been celebrated on the third Monday of February since 1990. This year Family Day falls on February 21.
