Tax season is upon us, and the Town of Cochrane is pleased to announce that the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program is returning for another year.

The program offers eligible residents help with filing personal taxes.

Cochrane FCSS and Canada Revenue have been working together for over 15 years to provide a program for eligible residents of modest income and who have a simple tax situation.

Volunteers from the community are trained by the CRA to provide tax assistance and help access government benefits.

Kim Krawec, Manager of Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) says, “This important service would not be possible without our community volunteers. The tax assistance provided empowers residents to save money and utilize all obtainable benefits, creating self-sufficiency.”

The program is running from now until the end of April 2022. Krawec says, “In 2021 alone, two volunteers assisted with the filing of over 490 tax returns, positively impacting hundreds of seniors, children, and low-income individuals.”
