Cochrane Town Council has officially designated November 12-18 as "Métis Week" to be commemorated annually in Cochrane.

This year, it will feature the celebration of Louis Riel Day on November 16th. This marks a significant occasion as the newly established Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta that has been formed and elected, establishing District 4 - Rocky View in the Battle River Territory.

Recognized as a distinct nation within the Canadian Constitution, the Métis people have played a crucial role in shaping Canadian society and culture.

The Town is encouraging residents to delve into the rich history of the Métis People and appreciate the vital contributions they have made to our town, province, and country.
