The temperatures in Cochrane this week have been cooler than we've seen in a while, with daily highs ranging between 17 and 22 degrees and we've had overnight lows in the single digits.

Well, If you thought our hot summer stretch had reached its expiration,  you may be in for a pleasant surprise.

According to the weather experts from Environment and Climate Change Canada, now is definitely not the time to swap out your summer wardrobe.

Environment Canada Meteorologist, Justin Shelley says we've actually been close to seasonal this week, but that's about to change.

"By Friday we have a large upper-ridge of high pressure that's going to bring in some really warm air to the region," says Shelley. "That's going to produce those temperatures that are going to be touching the low 30s starting on Friday and persisting through the weekend."

Cochrane is forecast to reach the 30-degree mark on Friday and those temperatures are going to keep soaring with a forecasted high of 33 degrees Celcius on Saturday.

Shelley says that while those temperatures fall in line with previous heat advisories we've experienced this summer, it's the overnight lows that will determine whether an advisory or warning is issued.

"If the current forecast were to hold true then that wouldn't necessarily constitute a heat warning," explains Shelly. "However, it's still a few days out so those temperatures might fluctuate in the coming days. So, if those temperatures do come into alignment with our criteria a heat warning will be issued."

Currently, Cochrane's weekend lows are forecast to range between 8 degrees on Friday night and 13 on Sunday, and just to keep us on our toes, the cooler "seasonal" weather will make its way back to Cochrane by Monday.
