It's just the start of some very hot days in Cochrane. 

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Cochrane and surrounding areas. 

The warning was put in place because we are about to experience "A prolonged, dangerous, and potentially historic heat wave"

Cochrane is expected to hit highs in the mid-'30s by Sunday, which could climb higher next week.

Extreme heat like this can lead to increased risk of heat-related illness.

We're being reminded to stay safe during this heat wave by trying to reschedule outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day.

Making sure to take frequent breaks from the heat, and to spend time in a cooled indoor space when possible.

Don't forget to drink lots of water and other non-alcoholic and non-caffeinated drinks to stay hydrated. 

Make sure you double-check for your children and pets before leaving your vehicle.

Heatstroke and heat exhaustion is a risk with these warm temperatures and we're being reminded to watch for symptoms of these including high body temperatures, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.
