The Cochrane RCMP are asking the public to help them with their investigation into the arson portion of mischief complaints that occurred at the end of July.

RCMP Constable Kary Moore recounts what took place.

"On July 30th, 2017 the RCMP in Cochrane responded to numerous property related complaints in the West Valley and West Terrace areas of Cochrane.  Those complaints were mischief related, including a vehicle set on fire, thefts from motor vehicles and windows smashed in an area school.

At approximately 3:00 am RCMP responded to a vehicle on fire in an alley in the West Valley area.  There is evidence to suggest that the suspect or suspects attempted to set numerous other items on fire in and around the vehicle.

Later in the day on July 30th, there were a number of other complaints of vehicles being rummaged through and then a complaint of a school in the area having its windows smashed."

Moore says the arson investigation is still ongoing and would, quite likely, lead to solving some other complaints in the area.  Some garage doors showed scorch marks indicating an attempt had been made to set them on fire as well.

According to Moore, the police are looking for someone to come forward with any information from that day.

"Just if they saw anyone walking in that area.  If there was a group of people walking in the area if they could maybe call in and describe them.  If they heard anything suspicious that didn't quite make sense, any bangs or pops or whatever.  Basically just anything, no matter how big or small the detail is, we're just looking to piece together some information."

If you recall anything from that time that could be helpful to police, you're asked to contact the Cochrane RCMP at 403 851-8000 or, if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Moore also says the RCMP are reminding residents to keep their ears and eyes open and to report anything that looks suspicious.
