Cochrane RCMP continue their investigation into some unfounded threats that caused schools in the Springbank area to be put into lock-down on October 26th.

At the same time, they're also asking parents to discuss the consequences of making false or prank 9-1-1 calls with their children.

During the afternoon of October 26th, Cochrane RCMP received a number of calls from a young man that there was a shooting at the Springbank Middle School.

Area schools were put into lock-down by their principals while police investigated,  After an intensive search of all schools, no suspicious activity was discovered.

Cochrane RCMP Constable Kary Moore says they haven't yet determined where the calls originated from, either what phone number of who made them.

Moore says, "At this time we're just asking if anyone has any information on this complaint to please contact the Cochrane RCMP or alternatively Crime Stoppers."

Moore says she doesn't believe the problem of prank calls has been an ongoing one for the Cochrane RCMP,  "No, I wouldn't be able to say there's a lot of them but this one was quite a serious one that was made and I think it's just important to know that there are consequences for making a false or prank 9-1-1 complaint..  There is a ripple effect or reaction that takes place when the police receive a complaint of this magnitude."

Which is why the RCMP are asking parents to discuss the issue with their children.  Moore says the effects of prank 9-1-1 calls can be far-reaching.

"It ranges from worried parents who catch wind of such a complaint.  It also requires the police to respond rapidly, so as far as roadway safety and whatnot.  And then, of course, the schools themselves.  It just causes a tremendous amount of stress and concern by everybody involved."

If anyone knows anything about this incident, call the Cochrane RCMP at 403 851-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

According to Moore,  any details you have will be helpful.  "It doesn't matter how much or how big the information is.  If you have any information regarding these phone calls that were made we'd appreciate it."
