Cochranites and Albertans could see a nice chunk of change on January 15.

The federal government is preparing to distribute the next round of Climate Action Incentive Payments (CAIP) early next week. The CAIP is a tax-free amount designed to help individuals and families offset the costs associated with federal pollution pricing. In regions without their own pricing system, including Alberta, the federal government implements a pollution pricing system to curb environmental impact.

Here are the key details for the upcoming CAIP in Alberta:

  • $193 for individuals.
  • $96.50 for spouses or common-law partners.
  • $48.25 per child under 18.
  • An additional 10 per cent for families in rural and small communities.

To be eligible, residents must be in Alberta on the first day of the payment month and the last day of the previous month. They should also meet at least one of the following conditions during the same period:

  • 19 years of age or older.
  • Have (or previously had) a spouse or common-law partner.
  • Be (or previously were) a parent living (or previously lived) with a child.

The next round of the climate action incentive payment for Albertans is scheduled for April.
