Back by popular demand … e-scooters will be hitting the streets tomorrow.

After a successful launch in town last year, Roll Technology's brightly coloured e-scooters will once again be available in Cochrane starting on March 25.

The Town approved the two-year pilot program with Roll last August, making 60 dockless electric scooters available in Cochrane's Historic Downtown.

According to a release from the Town, the pilot project supports the Town’s environmental efforts and transportation goals "by limiting carbon emissions, reducing traffic congestion, and minimizing transportation gaps."

The release goes on to say that the pilot project isn't coming at a cost to the Town and it will in fact help to bring local initiatives to life with a portion of the revenue from each trip being "donated to the Town for micro-mobility related projects, including building and maintaining protected bike lanes."

According to the Town of Cochrane's Community Connectivity Advisor, Devin LaFleche the e-scooter service is a valuable addition in enhancing community connectivity.

"We are thrilled to welcome back e-scooters for the season as it will contribute to safe and affordable transportation options here in Cochrane," Lafleche stated.  "With last year's success, we see this as a positive service leading to more community connectivity."

Cochrane is expecting up to 150 e-scooters which will be available throughout the "serviceable areas in town, between Fireside in the south to Heritage Hills in the north."

Roll reported the following usage statistics for Cochrane in 2021:

  • 6612 total trips
  • 1963 unique trips (i.e., unique users)
  • 3.2km average riding distance
  • 18.44 minutes average riding time

The pilot program initially kicked off in Cochrane on August 13, 2021.
