The Western Canadian Wheat Growers (WCWG) and the Grain Growers of Canada (GGC) are raising awareness for a campaign by the Agriculture Carbon Alliance (ACA) calling on politicians to support Bill C234.

Bill C-234 (an Act to amend the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act) still has to go through a third and final vote in the House of Commons.

The GGC encourages producers to highlight the importance of the bill to their Members of Parliament.

The ACA  website notes that the current carbon price rebate, introduced last year through Bill C-8, does not fully account for the individual breadth of carbon surcharges applied to farms.

It shows that farmers pay a carbon price on essential farming activities such as irrigation, grain drying, feed preparation, heating or cooling of barns and other agricultural growing structures.

For farmers and ranchers, Bill C-234 will extend the exemption from carbon pricing for on-farm use of propane and natural gas.

MP's return to the House of Commons on Monday after a week's break from Ottawa to return to their constituency.

Farmers can show their support for the bill by writing to their Member of Parliament through the ACA click & submit campaign.
