Cochrane FCSS is hosting a community event and a BBQ fundraiser for the United Way Friday, October 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the greenspace across from the FCSS building at 209 2nd Ave W.

The partnership between Cochrane FCSS, the Town, and the United Way (of Calgary and Area) has been happening for 23 years. It is a collaboration that has proven to be very beneficial to the community of Cochrane over the years. Kim Krawec Manager, of Cochrane FCSS (Family & Community Support Services), says, “The United Way provides us with funding every single year to help support some of our non-profit organizations working on addressing social issues.”

Each year as part of the relationship with the United Way, FCSS puts on an annual fundraiser. This year, the #Give a Little Love campaign is a community get-together and BBQ fundraiser that will showcase important organizations in the community that has benefitted from United Way funding. Krawec says, “This year we wanted to include the groups because we do not always get a chance to talk about the impact that these groups that are receiving the money have. So, we thought it was really important for the community to get that understanding of where the money is actually going and the impact and change these dollars are having for the people in our community.”

The community groups will be at the event to share resources and information about what they do. Each of the organizations will be providing fun and interesting activities for the whole family to enjoy. Those taking part include Big Hill Haven, Cochrane and Area Victim Services, and Right Hand Support.

Krawec says they will be taking donations at the event and there will be a BBQ by donation that will help to raise funds and support the cause while providing an enjoyable get-together for everyone who attends.  Every dollar raised will stay in Cochrane.
