A victory yesterday for the Government of Alberta as the Federal Court of Appeal (FCA) dismissed the legal challenges that were filed last summer by First Nations in British Columbia that could have blocked further construction of the Trans Mountain pipeline.

Today's decision paves the way for construction on the controversial expansion of the project to continue.

Premier Jason Kenney called the decision, "a victory for common sense and the rule of law."  Kenney said the government was pleased that the Federal Court of Appeal had made a "fair decision."  He also said now that the legal hurdle had been cleared there was no denying that it is time to get the pipeline built.

The FCA's ruling was unanimous in their dismissal of the legal challenges saying in a 95-page ruling that they had concluded that there was no basis for interfering.
