As of 5 p.m. Thursday evening, the Town of Cochrane is officially under a fire advisory.

Dry conditions combined with high winds have lead to a fire hazard in Cochrane and the surrounding areas.

"The fire advisory is reminding everyone to use extreme caution with their using their backyard fire pit. No burning grass, no burning construction material, no yard waste," explains Cochrane Fire Inspector Jeff Avery.

"The only thing you can burn in your backyard is good, clean wood. Have the grass around it watered down and make sure it's cool to the touch when you leave."

Public firepits will remain open in parks such as Riverfront and Cochrane Ranche but should be used with extreme caution.
