Windy conditions, dry grass... it's that time of the year.

Following closely on the steps of Friday's grass fire that threatened homes in the Cochrane Lake area, the town is looking at the possibility of issuing a fire advisory.

An even higher fire hazard level may come shortly afterward

Fire inspector Jeff Avery says town fire officials have been discussing the possibility and may issue an advisory as early as Monday. He says this is prime grass fire season.

"I wouldn't be surprised at all if we see an advisory on Monday," says Avery. "And if it stays windy and dry, then we may ramp it up a little bit as well."

There's nothing official yet, though, he points out.

If a fire advisory goes into effect, residents will still be able to use their backyard fire pits.

"People can still have backyard fires and such, but we're letting everyone know to use extreme caution because everything is really dry."

Neither town or the county currently has fire advisories in effect.
