A Cochrane man is facing nine charges, including forcible confinement, for a suspected kidnapping that ended with a police chase in the Edmonton area.

Yesterday, St. Albert RCMP laid charges against the suspect Brian Hosack, 21, who apprehended in Edmonton after attempting to evade the police on May 27.

Responding to an allegation that a St. Albert man was being held against his will in a 2008 green Hyundai, St. Albert RCMP located the vehicle in question near the intersection of the St. Albert Trail and  McKenney Ave. The suspect failed to stop, struck an unmarked police vehicle, then carried on into Edmonton city limits. Edmonton Police Service and Air One were recruited to assist with the pursuit. The vehicle was stopped at a dead end near Edmonton's Remax Field and Hosack was arrested without further incident.

Hosack has been charged with forcible confinement, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop after an accident, assault with a weapon, assault of a police officer with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, uttering threats and mischief to private property.

The victim and a police officer received minor injuries in the collision.

Hosack will be appearing in St. Albert Provincial Court on Monday, June 24, 2019.
