A large crowd came out to celebrate the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Cochrane Protective Services building on Saturday.

The state-of-the-art facility in Heartland houses Cochrane RCMP, Cochrane Municipal Enforcement, and Cochrane and Area Victim Services

RCMP Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki, Commanding Officer for Alberta said having this space in Cochrane is a great addition to the community.

"Very important to have a facility like this. It's very modern, this facility really brings out the history. If you've been inside, you'll see the artwork and the articles that are on display within, but it's also about the future and the vision of community safety here in Cochrane and the area."

He said one of the unique features of the building is there is room to grow.

"This is really important, especially in the context of Cochrane and the area, we know the community is rapidly growing. This vision of the Mayor and council to add additional space within this facility to accommodate growth into the future is very important, and I'm quite confident that we're going to be able to fill that space in the next short number of years to come."

There's a large space on the second floor that was left undeveloped but will be readily available to develop when needed.

Construction began on the 40,000-square-foot building in July 2021 with a $23 million budget.
