While it might be a quieter celebration of Lunar New Year in Cochrane this year, today marks the first day of the year of the Ox. Celebrated all around the world, Lunar New Year is tied to the year’s first new moon.

This morning there was a knock at our door from my four-year-old son’s best friend Kai. Kai was rocking a dress shirt (underneath his winter jacket) and was so excited to gift my son a lucky red envelope. Called a hóngbāo, the envelope carries money inside which is a symbol of good wishes and luck for the new year ahead...or in a four-year-old’s mind “You can buy a toy with it!”

Are you celebrating today? We would love to hear from you! Send us a note, call us up at 403-981-0915, or jump over to our Facebook page.

Happy Lunar New Year to everyone celebrating in Cochrane today.
