Canada Day and summer will be extra special in Alberta this year.

This afternoon, Premier Jason Kenney has announced Alberta's public health measures will be lifted on July 1 in Alberta and says our lives will get back to normal.

On June 17, Alberta surpassed the 70 per cent threshold to trigger stage 3 of Alberta's Open for Summer Plan, with 70. 2 per cent eligible Albertans receiving their first vaccine dose.

He says this may even be the best Alberta summer ever.

"Thank you to the 2.7 million Albertans who have chosen to roll up their sleeves and get the jab," said Kenney.  "Because of you, we're about to take this huge step forward."

He says the bottom line is virtually all remaining COVID-19 restrictions will be history.

"No more limits on weddings or funerals. No more bans on indoor social gatherings, no more limits for gyms, sports, and fitness activities. No more capacity limits at restaurants, at retail, or for places of worship., No more advisories against nonessential travel, so long as you observe travel requirements in other jurisdictions.

"Instead, we'll get back to doing things we all love, the things that make summers so special in Alberta."

More details and reactions to follow.
