Cochrane residents will have a chance to explore their options for health, and support those in need at the Cochrane & Area Health Show this weekend.

The show in support of the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank will feature 49 local businesses that provide health services, products, and other resources.

Kendra Kane, Opulence Alliance Events Co-Owner, says hosting the show in Cochrane was an easy choice.

"Being that Cochrane is such a strong health community, we thought it would be a bonus for people to have this kind of a show out there," she says. "It's good for visitors to come to the show and explore whats available in their community that relates to their health needs."

Kane explains the goal of the event is to raise awareness about local businesses, and show consumers they have lots of local choices when it comes to their health.

"With the big box stores coming in, that tends to squeeze out of some of the small businesses, they have bigger advertising budgets, and they're easier to access. We're giving the local businesses that visibility, and giving the local consumer that re-introduction to what's in their neighbourhood."

The show will feature a variety of products, services, and resources that are specific to healthy living: supplements, weight loss/management products, healthy living items such as coffees and teas, practitioners and demos.

The Health Show is a food drive for the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank, admission is free with a donation (preferably rice, quinoa, and legumes) as the food bank is experiencing a shortage of those products.

The Cochrane & Area Health Show will be held at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sport Centre from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 18.
